A Day in the Life of a Pothole Repair Crew

Every year in New York City, around 200,000 potholes are filled in. But as with many of the vital functions in the transport networks that make urban life possible, the process usually functions in the background, and is near imperceptible when carried out efficiently.

This video—part of Tumblr’s Storyboard series—charts one day in the life of a pothole repair crew as they go about their daily work, filling in cracks in streets and sidewalks that would otherwise inconvenience drivers, cyclists or pedestrians.

From early morning in Brooklyn where the truck is loaded with asphalt, out into the streets of Manhattan where their day’s work takes place, the team provide an essential public service for the people of New York: just one more of the crucial but often unsung roles so essential to the fabric of our cities.
