Starting at the grassroot level as agriculturist, I completed my agronomic studies in Germany before moving to Scandinavia. At NTNU in Trondheim I further deepend my knowledge in botany and plant physiology finishing my PhD about herbs and medicinal plants. I worked within the agricultural field for several years focusing on crop cultivation and nutritional quality, phytochemicals and their bioactivity. Today, my interests have moved more into molecular biology related to the function of genes, and the chemical composition of biological matter in general – whether it be plants, algae, fish or processed food. Being involved in cross-disciplinary projects between biology, nutrition and also medicine, my daily work is strongly based on analytical chemistry and so-called profiling techniques to deduce effects of stress factors and environmental conditions on biological systems.
My Urban Times Story
When looking around for a useful tool for guiding my way through the jungle of online news, I installed the Flipboard app on my Ipad and stumbled across Urban Times. UTs concept excited me, and I started to read it on a frequent basis. I really enjoy reading contributions within the fields of sci&tech, environment, politics and culture broadening my horizons beyond my daily biological tasks.
