Portland Fashion Week is celebrating its 10th anniversary this September, from the 12th until the 21st. Recently named the #1 Major City Fashion Week to attend, founder Tod Hunter Foulk has partnered with fashion industry mavens Sarabeth Chambers and Jessica Kane to create Portland’s most captivating fashion week yet. Named the “Sundance of Fashion Weeks”, Portland is currently the nation’s third longest running fashion week behind New York and Los Angeles. Its unique combination of cutting-edge fashion, art, music and community involvement creates an experience unlike any other fashion week in the world.
Portland Fashion Week presents a vision of the city that is not only fashionable, but sustainable as well.
Renowned for its unparalleled environmental focus, Portland Fashion Week places sustainability at the forefront of the industry. With an innovative bamboo runway, low consumptive LED lighting, on-site recycling and the world’s only fashion week carbon mitigation replanting project, Portland is paving the path of fashion’s sustainable future. In addition, they have carefully chosen the finest locally crafted and distilled beers, wine and spirits and will emphasize a regional and seasonal selection of gourmet foods for catering. Portland Fashion Week presents a vision of the city that is not only fashionable, but sustainable as well.
Portland Fashion Week founder Foulk has been a name in the Portland fashion scene since 2000, contributing millions of dollars to support the local economy and producing over 150 fashion events. His philanthropic focus is integrated into each production he pioneers. This year, Portland Fashion Week will spotlight a different local charity every night; each one receiving a portion of the proceeds as well as public donations garnered through the event.
Joining the management team this year is Jessica Kane, award winning entrepreneur, spokeswoman and blogger. Kane is changing the game of fashion with her forward-thinking blog, The Life & Style of Jessica, which challenges stereotypes and encourages body acceptance among women. She created the viral sensation Full Body Photo Project and founded and published SKORCH Magazine. Kane created and produced the largest multicultural wedding show in North America and has consulted with numerous companies through her own company, the Jessica Kane Agency. She has established herself as an unconventional force in the world of fashion by focusing on female empowerment.
Sarabeth Chambers, internationally known Portland-based fashion designer and Intel engineer joins the team this year as well. Chambers entered the Portland fashion scene in 2003 and has proven her love for local fashion through mentoring and sponsoring up-and-coming designers, seamstresses, models, photographers, hair and make-up artists, fabric designers and fiber artists. Coming from a long line of artists and designers, Chambers has been invited to international fashion weeks and has had her own designs grace the red carpet of the Oscars and Grammy awards.
With an exceptional team and renewed focus, Portland Fashion Week is bound to be a success. Showcasing the best and brightest designers the industry has to offer, it reaches nearly 200 million consumers. Portland Fashion Week will be hosted at Oregon’s Convention Center, one of the most notable locations in the city. This year features an even longer schedule, with a 3 day runway show event followed by 7 days of satellite events called PFW ON THE GO. Integrating art and music into this fashion bonanza with top of the line stage design, lighting, live music and art installations, Portland Fashion Week encapsulates everything it means to be a Portlander.
Portland Fashion Week is a production of Portland Fashion Council, LLC.
