"If clothes are a form of self-expression, my clothes must express my care and thought in favor of environmental sustainability, no matter if I'm wearing a bikini or a ball gown." --Mallory Curlee, Founder & Designer of CurleeBikini Swimwear

It’s always inspiring to see the combination of two separate ideas produce something beautiful–and that’s exactly what CurleeBikini represents for designer Mallory Curlee. Her line of eco-luxury swimwear reflects her passion for design and beauty coupled with her environmentally conscientious beliefs. At CurleeBikini, you will find pieces that have vibrant colors and bold prints, in strong silhouettes inspired by Mallory’s Brazilian bikini wearing days. In addition, every piece is made from remnant, vintage, and organic fabrics.

One could say that CurleeBikini has been in the making for a long time–ever since Mallory was ten years old and she decided she wanted to become a fashion designer. Since that revelation, the pieces that would eventually come together to become her own start-up swimwear company and eco-fashion label slowly fell into place.

Growing up in the gulf coast of Texas as a competitive surfer and swimmer, Mallory was no stranger to bikinis. Before heading off to college, Mallory spent a year living in Costa Rica where her passion for Brazilian bikinis blossomed and would later influence her design aesthetic. From there, the designer went on to earn her BA in Business Administration from St. Augustine’s Flagler College and then moved on to Los Angeles, CA to complete design school at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM). It was there she became aware of the large amounts of waste the fashion industry generated and began exploring ideas around lessening her environmental impact.

Upon graduating design school, Mallory made another decision, to start her own label with an eco-luxury swimwear line that would merge her passion for design and swimwear with her passion for reducing the environmental impacts of the fashion industry. Thus, CurleeBikini Swimwear was born and officially launched in November 2009.

In addition to creating environmentally conscious swimwear, Mallory has taken her passion for reducing clothing-generated waste one step further through CurleeBikini’s 360.Degree Mindfulness program. The program promises that every swimsuit is custom, handmade to order and comes with a two year warranty that provides adjustments and repairs at no additional costs outside of shipping. Finally, the program offers the client a 20% discount for returning their old swimsuit after the two year warranty expires. The entire 360.Degree Mindfulness program further promotes the idea of a zero waste wardrobe.

Since its beginning in 2009, Mallory and CurleeBikini have forged ahead in promoting the goal of environmentally conscious, luxury swimwear. Since then, CurleeBikini production has expanded to four different design studios. The vibrant and forward-thinking swimwear pieces can be found at Etsy and select pieces can now be found on UrbanMarket.
