Turning Hong Kong into a Video Game

If you have ever played any of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto franchise you will know that cities are the perfect place for virtual reality mayhem. This is clearly something the imagination of photographer Christian Åslund agrees with, and in his recent ‘Honkey Kong’ marketing campaign for Jim Rickey shoes he produces the kind of 2D mastery that many of us love about retro gaming.

Using a telephoto lens from the lofty heights of Hong Kong tower blocks, Åslund managed to make the protagonists look flattened in cartoon-like action shots. Equipped with walkie talkie devices, Christian and the models would communicate the best poses, the threats of oncoming vehicles and directing the action effectively from afar.
