Tommy Edison does not understand the concept of colour. He claims that people explaining colour to him is like someone describing to a deaf person how the waves sound like when they hit the shorelines. The idea simply does not mean anything nor does it make sense to him.
“It’s funny for me because I don’t understand pictures. I mean, I don’t know color. I don’t know what sunlight does or how it refracts or reflects.”
Fortunately, he did not let this stop him from sharing his artistic input with the world.
Recently, Edison made headlines for publishing a video that teaches blind people how to use the Instagram application. With the accessibility feature on his iPhone, Edison is able to identify the different options that are available on his mobile device. Siri reads aloud everything he touches – from apps to filters to sharing choices on social networks. Not all of the images turn out well, but his followers have been great at describing the pictures in detail to him. One hot day in July, for instance, he wanted to take a picture to represent heat. However, “it ended up being a truck. Go figure,” shares Edison with the Huffington Post.
Below are examples of the beautiful pictures Edison has taken, alongside their original descriptions:
With his infectious smile and unrelenting optimism it is no surprise that people are continuously drawn to him. His refreshing perspective provides hope to those around him.
Aside from being Instagram-savvy, Edison also reviews movies as the “Blind Film Critic.” Additionally, he works as a traffic reporter at radio station Star 99.9 in Connecticut.
